Operation CommUNITY Nutrition

Moontree, together with our great friend Andre Rutishauser

(from the Conscious Cafe),  started Operation CommUnity Nutrition project on the 12th May, 2020, during a time of great need.  Imifino is a registered NPO.

We prepare around 500 meals per week, supplying meals to those in need including Vumelani Orphan Care Centre in Shongweni.

We prepare highly nutritious, plant-based meals to be taken into the surrounding rural communities. These vegetable and legume (protein) rich meals are cooked in huge cast iron potjie pots over a slow fire in the traditional Zulu manner. We add in our locally grown, wild Superfoods/Imifino,  creating next level nutrition and boosting the immune system during this pandemic!

Imifino NPO has also begun with sustainable Community Food Garden setups at various children/care centers. The ultimate goal is to empower those in need to be able to grow, harvest and prepare highly nutritious food for children and the elderly. At the same time, teaching people about Nutrition, wild harvesting, food preservation and how food can actually heal and keep one healthy…all encompassing of Hippocrates oath: Let food be thy Medicine and Medicine thy Food.

This project could not have been possible without the local community donating and supporting this initiative from cash, vegetables, fruit, blankets and masks – we thank you!
